Who am I to be used by You?

How can this call you gave be true?

Like Moses, I’m not a good speaker

I don’t nearly compare to him, I’m much weaker.

Who am I to be used by You?

I am quick to speak like Peter,

But a bit insecure and meeker.

Who am I to be used by You?

I’m not that strong, I’m not that tough.

Not that good, not enough.

Who am I to be used by You?

Unlike Elijah, I don’t have the words,

It honestly feels a bit absurd,

That You could work through someone like me.

Just as I am, I need to just be.

Who am I to be used by You?

That doesn’t sound right at all,

Like David, don’t You know I’m prone to fall.

Do You remember who I’ve been,

Like Saul, no way You called me even then.

Who am I to be used by You?

Maybe it’s the wrong question, maybe that wasn’t right,

It’s not how I see me, but who I am in Your sight.

Yet still, shift my eyes to something better by far,

It’s not who I am, but more about who You are.

Thank You, Father, for who You are.

You are God. That is who You are.

You are calm and quiet like the sea,

Yet You are bold and ferocious as can be.

You are loyal and You are true.

God, make me just like You.

You are love. That is who You are.

You are peace and You are patient,

You are overwhelmingly gracious.

You are safety and You are home,

You never leave me on my own.

You are strength. That is who You are.

You are good and You are wise.

Let me see people through Your eyes.

You are freedom and You are compassion,

Through You I am called to action.

You are restoration, that is who You are.

You are gentle and You are color,

Lead me to walk in life and wonder.

You created me in my mother’s womb,

A new creation in the image of You.

You are God, that is who You are.

Thank You, Father, for who You are.

So, yes, it was the wrong question, no, it wasn’t right.

It’s not how I see me, but who I am in Your sight.

So I will shift my eyes to something better by far,

For it’s not about who I am, but simply who You are.

  1. Yes, reading about who God is made me cry tears of gratitude. So many times over the years I have said “God, I am not equipped to do this!” Most of the time, actually. He just wants our open hearts and willing hands and feet! Exciting times ahead of discovery!

  2. You’re incredible. This writing is so inspiring. So much talent and so much truth. Love you sis!

  3. This. Is. Absolutely. Amazing!!!
Beyond the brilliant writing and rhythm, it is packed with so much Truth. It reminds me of so many Psalms where David starts with questions and ends with praises.
Very cool, Kaley. I really hope you get multiple chances to read this as a part of worship this year. Just wow.

  4. Kaley—this is so beautiful and so powerful! Like your very own Psalm. You are an amazing writer and communicator of truth!
